Paris was at its cultural peak.Henri-Roger ExpertBorn in 1882, Expert first studied painting, but at the age of 24, he began studying under renowned French architect Gaston Redon. In 1921 he accepted a position as the official architect of national structures, and was responsible for the maintenance of the Louvre Palace, the Gobelins Manufactory (a tapesty factory), and the PanthĆ©on.Louvre PalaceExpert's work tended towards Art Deco. He developed an expertise in architectural lighting, and his dramatic floodlighting for the 1937 Paris Exposition inspired Albert Speer to produce a "cathedral of light" in his short propaganda film, "Festive Nuremberg" in 1937.Expert died in 1951, and is buried in the French town of Arcachon.
